Rowing Club was officially formed in May 1998.
In 1990 a small group of parents from Hunter Valley
Grammar School at East Maitland formed and supported the school’s
Rowing Supporters Squad, provided boats and oars, procured land on a
straight stretch of the Hunter River between Morpeth and Raymond Terrace,
and built and landscaped the boating beach and grounds. Not forgetting
fund-raising and boat transport duties?
By 1998 the students had moved on and it was time for
those hard-working parents to have some exercise and competition and
enjoyment from the sport of rowing. Not forgetting fund-raising and
transport duties! Within the first two years the Club had secured its own
freehold land adjoining HVGS boatshed and built its own boat house. Further
amenities followed in the ensuing years with landscaped grounds and beaching
areas set within very pleasant rural acres.
ERC is a community based sporting club with a strong
affiliation with Maitland Grossman High School where a Learn-to-Row program
has been running for over 4 years. The club has several members who
coordinate and implement coaching sessions on Club Sundays for aspiring
rowers. Members have competed at World, National, State and local levels
with considerable success.
Rowing is a fantastic sport, low-impact, aerobic,
non-confrontational and amazingly addictive. It is also SERIOUS FUN!
and CHALLENGING!
Come along and take the CHALLENGE at Endeavour.
